It’s PINK IN THE RINK once again, and LWC members, their friends and family are invited to join in the fun!

The Monarchs Care Foundation and Catholic Medical Center are teaming up for Pink in the Rink, and invite the public to join them on Saturday, February 11 for this special Monarchs hockey game which will raise awareness and benefit the fight against Breast Cancer through the Monarchs Care Foundation, Norris Cotton Cancer Center and the Breast Care Center at Catholic Medical Center.

The ice is literally turned pink and the entire team wears bright pink hockey gear that evening. Everyone is encouraged to wear pink to show their support, too. It’s a fun night of Monarchs hockey and the cost is $22 per ticket. Jean White is heading up this outing. You must contact Jean prior to January 20 if you would like tickets. LWC Prepares for a Special Visitor

Standard

Lincoln Godzik visits with Santa Claus in December 2010 at LWC's annual Breakfast with Santa

It wouldn’t be December in Litchfield without a special visit from Santa Claus. Each year, the Litchfield Women’s Club welcomes Santa and his many fans and friends with a delicious all-you-can eat pancake and sausage breakfast.

This year’s big event will be held on Saturday, December 10 at the Litchfield Middle School from 8 to 10:30 a.m. The cost is just $2 for children, age 10 and under and $4 for everyone else over 10 years of age. The hearty breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, juice, milk and coffee.

Santa arrives each year by fire truck, with his merry elves, at 9 am and will be available for pictures from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Guests are invited to bring along cameras to capture the moment, and a $2 donation will be gratefully accepted to the Litchfield Women’s Club community fund.

What to do while you’re waiting to see Santa or are done with breakfast? There’s lots of fun games, tempting basket and gift certificate raffles, special guest readers from Griffin Memorial School and Santa’s Sweet Shoppe with lots of seasonal goodies to enjoy at the event or bring home for later. Mrs. Claus plans to visit as well to chat with youngsters and serve up tasty cookies.

Each year, the Litchfield Women’s Club’s breakfast with Santa benefits the nonprofit’s community fund which assists those in need in Litchfield, provides ‘scholarship’ money so middle school students can attend class trips, allows LWC to donate to other organizations in town, and assist wherever and whenever possible in the community.

The Litchfield Women’s Club is an independent nonprofit community service organization for women of all ages. The focus is on community, scholarship and friendship, and the club brings women together to share their interests, talents and enthusiasm to benefit the community and enable personal growth for its members.

The club meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month in October, November, February, March, April and May at the Litchfield Middle School library at 7 p.m. Club socials are held off-premise in a variety of locations in September, December, January and June. LWC will host its annual holiday party on Tuesday, December 13 at Stage Crossing Clubhouse at 6:30 pm. New members are always welcome. To learn more, come to a meeting or email litchfieldwomensclub@gmail.com.

Pumpkinfest, Here We Come!

Standard

There’s lots going on with the Litchfield Women’s Club this fall, and you’ll see club members out and about at many events in the coming month. We’ll be at the Hudson Kiwanis’ annual Pumpkinfest on Saturday, October 15th with a tempting assorted of pumpkin-related baked goods and other delicious treats! We’re looking forward to meeting our neighbors from surrounding towns and getting the word out about our nonprofit community service organization. Be sure to look for the LWC table; we’ll be there from early morning until the fireworks end! The event promises to be a lot of fun for everyone and we hope to see you there!

Fall is a fabulous time in New Hampshire and we’re getting out and enjoying the seasonal hues and local food with a trip to Pickity Place in Mason on Sunday, October 23rd. We’ll enjoy a 5-course gourmet luncheon in their cozy restaurant before exploring the grounds and taking in the main gift shop and the Christmas shop, too. It’s sure to be an afternoon of good food, good fun and good friends, old and new. Co-president Jean White is leading this excursion.

We have two community service initiatives in place for November, both which are longtime LWC traditions. On Saturday, November 5 (raindate November 6), club members and quite often, their family members as well, take to the streets for the annual roadside fall clean-up. LWC adopted the stretch of Route 3A beginning at Passaconaway Country Club and ending at the Litchfield Technology Park many years ago and participates in fall and spring clean-up efforts. Veteran members delight in the tales of the treasures found on the sides of the busy thoroughfare throughout the years and community members benefit from a cleaner passage through town. LWC is just one of the volunteer groups who have dedicated time for many years to keeping the town of Litchfield clean. LWC member and club secretary Claire Regan will organize the upcoming clean-up.

On November 12, club member and sunshine chair Renee Charette will head up our annual fall Blood Drive in cooperation with the American Red Cross at Griffin Memorial School in Litchfield. National Honor Society students from Campbell High School will assist as blood runners at the event and club members will be on hand to check donors in and serve refreshments. Further details will be available shortly.

The Litchfield Women’s Club meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the Litchfield Middle School library at 7 p.m. (October, November, February, March, April, May) and at other locations (as announced) in September, December and June, when the club enjoys off-premise social events. New members are welcome at any time. To learn more, consider coming to a meeting or email us at litchfieldwomensclub@gmail.com.
